Following form the success of the BSides movement internationally, and the success of ZaCon  held in Johannesburg and entering its third year,
We have decided its time that the Cape had a security event of its own. Hence Security Bsides Cape Town will be held for the first time in early
December this year. This is a community event, and as such don't expect to see vendors and get lots of swag (no, we don't even have a sponsor).
The primary purpose is to provide some focus to the often (we feel) neglected security community outside of Gauteng.

To quote one of the largest BSides events, BSides Las Vegas: "Over the last 2+ years we have witnessed the rebirth of the security community. The
conversations are getting more potent and the "TALK AT YOU" conferences are starting to realize they have to change. YOU are the reason for this
new era of Information Sharing and Teamwork. The BSides community has continuously raised the bar and put the INFO back in INFOSEC."

This is what we are aiming at with BSides Cape Town. We want to put the INFO back in to INFOSEC.

We are looking for two kinds of talks, Full and lightning.

Full talks are for a 30-40 minutes in length dealing with almost anything of an Information Security Nature.

A slot will be set aside for lightning talks in the afternoon. This is a great way to get up on stage and spend 10 minutes telling us about any
cool ideas or research you are working on. No slides needed, just chatting about something you've been playing with or researching.

For both talk types, pretty much anything relating to Infosec will be considered, however the following are some ideas to start thinking about.

* Human aspects
   * Social engineering
   * Security education
   * Training programmes
   * Awareness
* Techical/Pentest
   * Tools (new and old)
   * Techniques, approaches
   * Lessons Learned
* Exploits and Defense
   * New vulnerabilities
   * Novel defenses
   * Forensics
   * Intrusion and Incident Response
* Off the wall stuff
   * UAV's
   * Microcontroller hacking
   * re-purposing other hardware
   * Lockpicking (yes we even want to see this!)

What we are looking for is to get people up and talking about the interesting work they are doing, meet other like minded folk and get some value out of the day.
We are NOT looking for marketing/sales pitches (we have a /dev/null reserved for those).  If you are not sure about your topic, talk to us!
In keeping with the
overall SecurityBSides ethic, BSides Cape Town will consider submissions on any information security subject from everyone in the community.

Talk proposals should consist of a 3-500 word abstract sent to cfp@bsidescapetown.i-sec.co.za by the 30th of September 2011 .
